Suicide Awareness and Support
Suicide Awareness and Support
In 2026, the global theme for suicide prevention remains “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” with the call to action: “Start the Conversation.”
In my practice, ‘Changing the Narrative’ means recognizing that suicidal thoughts are often a human response to unbearable pain. As a person-centred counsellor, I don’t see you as a ‘risk to be managed,’ but as a person to be heard. I offer a safe, non-judgmental space to hold your darkest moments, without labels, and with deep respect for your lived experience.
Reaching out for support can feel overwhelming, especially when traditional services don’t always understand our unique identities. These resources are here if you need a safe space to be heard outside of our sessions. They offer various ways to connect whether you prefer to text, chat online, or speak to someone who shares your lived experience.”
Support Resources & Crisis Contacts
A Space for Everyone
If you are finding things difficult right now, please know that you don’t have to carry it alone. Below are several ways to find support. These services have been chosen because they align with my values of inclusion, neuro-affirmation, and LGBTQIA+ safety.
General & Urgent Support
- NHS 111 (Option 2): Call 111 and select Option 2.
- Direct access to local NHS mental health crisis teams (24/7).
- Samaritans: Call 116 123.
- A 24/7 listening ear for any struggle, large or small.
Immediate Text-Based Support
Best for those who find phone calls overwhelming or need to communicate silently.
- Shout (All Ages): Text SHOUT to 85258.
- Free, 24/7, anonymous. It will not show up on your phone bill.
- The Mix (Under 25s): Text THEMIX to 85258.
- Crisis support specifically for young people.
LGBTQIA+ Specific Support
Services run by and for the community, ensuring your identity is respected.
- Switchboard LGBT+: Call 0800 0119 100 (10am–10pm) or use their Webchat at switchboard.lgbt.
- MindOut: Online instant message support for the LGBTQ+ community. Visit mindout.org.uk.
- MindLine Trans+: Call 0300 330 5468.
- Confidential support for Trans, Non-binary, and Gender-fluid individuals.
Neurodiversity-Specific Self-Care
If you are experiencing Autistic Burnout or sensory overwhelm, sometimes a crisis line isn’t what you need. Consider:
- Reducing sensory input (lights off, noise-canceling headphones).
- Giving yourself permission to “unmask” and stim.
- Engaging in a “special interest” or a low-demand activity to regulate.
Note: These resources are independent of my practice. If you are in immediate physical danger, please contact emergency services (999) or attend your nearest A&E.
I was nervous before our first session as I didn’t know what to expect but you instantly put me at ease and made me feel supported. The techniques and theories you taught me have really helped me understand and manage my anxiety, and I continue to use these techniques and skills every day. Throughout our sessions you were understanding, compassionate, kind, and you challenged my way of thinking in a way that was supportive and encouraging. I can’t thank you enough for how quickly you were able to offer me help and how much my life has changed for the better.
