Stress

Stress

Stress is the body’s natural response to a challenge or demand. Stress can leave you feeling overwhelmed, worried, or run down. While short term stress can be a good motivator, long term stress can have negative effects on your physical and mental health. Work stress, relationship issues, ill health, bereavement, life transitions can all contribute to increased levels of stress.

Clients feeling stressed on a daily basis, may experience physical, emotional and behavioural challenges. You may be having headaches, muscle tension, fatigue and stomach problems, perhaps feeling irritable, angry, anxious, overwhelmed or lacking in motivation. Changes in your appetite, sleep and wanting to withdraw, may be leading you to drink more alcohol or to use drugs in an effort to alleviate your symptoms of stress.

How I help clients who experience problematic Stress

I help clients to explore the root cause of their stress, particularly long term stress. When long term stress becomes the norm, it can be difficult to identify the initial stressor. Mindfulness, exercise, diet and getting enough sleep can all help to alleviate your experience of stress. I encourage clients to think about self care and setting boundaries. Connecting and sharing with others, can provide valuable support.
