Living with a Chronic Illness

Living with a Chronic Illness

Living with a chronic (long term) illness can cause significant challenges beyond the physical symptoms. It can impact a person’s emotional well-being, financial stability, and relationships. People with chronic illnesses often deal with many unseen symptoms that can be part of their daily life. Pain and fatigue, stress, feelings of frustration, grief, anxiety, and depression are all common.

The unpredictable nature of flares and relapses can be stressful, affecting work, relationships, socialising and home life. There is a general lack in understanding of the challenges they face.

How I help clients living with Chronic Illness

Clients living with chronic illness often feel isolated and misunderstood. It can be difficult for others to appreciate the challenges they face when often, they ‘appear’ to look healthy and well. I support clients to express their concerns, feelings and frustrations and hopes for their future. I encourage clients to engage in self care and to find ways to manage their daily lives. Managing stress is also crucial to ‘living well’ with their chronic illness.

I was nervous before our first session as I didn’t know what to expect but you instantly put me at ease and made me feel supported. The techniques and theories you taught me have really helped me understand and manage my anxiety, and I continue to use these techniques and skills every day. Throughout our sessions you were understanding, compassionate, kind, and you challenged my way of thinking in a way that was supportive and encouraging. I can’t thank you enough for how quickly you were able to offer me help and how much my life has changed for the better.
