Movember

Men’s Mental Health Month is observed in November to raise awareness about the mental and physical health challenges men face. The month aims to encourage men to have open conversations about their mental health, seek support, and challenge stigmas that prevent them from getting help for issues like anxiety, depression, and suicide.

  • Awareness and stigma reduction:

The month highlights that many men suffer in silence due to societal expectations and encourages a culture where seeking help is seen as a sign of strength.

  • Encouraging conversation:

It promotes open dialogue and listening to help friends and family who may be struggling.

  • Promoting seeking help:

It emphasizes the importance of men seeking professional help, such as therapy or counselling, which can be a safe, non-judgmental space.

  • Physical health:

While mental health is a focus, the month also draws attention to physical health issues like prostate and testicular cancer.

  • Suicide prevention:

A major goal is suicide prevention, as suicide is the leading killer of men under 50 in the UK, and many men are disproportionately affected.

I was nervous before our first session as I didn’t know what to expect but you instantly put me at ease and made me feel supported. The techniques and theories you taught me have really helped me understand and manage my anxiety, and I continue to use these techniques and skills every day. Throughout our sessions you were understanding, compassionate, kind, and you challenged my way of thinking in a way that was supportive and encouraging. I can’t thank you enough for how quickly you were able to offer me help and how much my life has changed for the better.
