Carers and Caring

Carers and Caring

Being a carer is a significant and often challenging role that many people take on without formal training or pay. It involves providing unpaid care and support to a family member, partner, friend, or neighbour who is ill, disabled, elderly, or has a mental health condition or addiction.

A carer is anyone who provides this kind of support. Many carers don’t even identify with the term “carer”, seeing their actions simply as what a loving family member or friend would do. Carers often provide a wide range of tasks, including practical support, personal care, domestic chores, financial support, appointments and medication and emotional support.

While caring can be a deeply rewarding experience, it often comes with significant personal costs. Carers may face physical and mental health strain, financial hardship social isolation and relationship changes.

How I help clients who are Carers

Clients can often be coping with the gradual decline of a loved one. I will provide a space for you to share your feelings, including feelings of loss, anger, guilt and frustration. I encourage self care and compassion.

If you are a carer or know someone who is, seeking out support is a vital step in ensuring both the carer and the person they care for can live with the best possible quality of life.

I was nervous before our first session as I didn’t know what to expect but you instantly put me at ease and made me feel supported. The techniques and theories you taught me have really helped me understand and manage my anxiety, and I continue to use these techniques and skills every day. Throughout our sessions you were understanding, compassionate, kind, and you challenged my way of thinking in a way that was supportive and encouraging. I can’t thank you enough for how quickly you were able to offer me help and how much my life has changed for the better.
